Elon Musk and the Nobel Peace Prize
Elon Musk Deserves to Win the Coveted Nobel Peace Prize. Here is Why.
European Parliament members, including Branko Grims, recently nominated Elon Musk for the Nobel Peace Prize. Legacy media reported on the nomination as you probably heard. Elon Musk is a worthy candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, though he apparently does not want any prizes. I will briefly provide some background on Nobel Prizes in general, the Nobel Peace Prize in particular and outline the reasons why Elon Musk should win the award.
Some Brief Background on the Nobel Prizes
Alfred Nobel, a Swedish chemist and industrialist who invented dynamite and other powerful explosives, created the Nobel Prizes in his will when he died in 1896. In the will, Nobel stated his fortune was to be used to reward “. . . those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind . . ..” Nobel’s will called for rewards to be allocated annually in five areas physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and peace. In 1969, another award was added for economics.
Nobel’s will calls for the Peace prize to be awarded to the person who, in the preceding year:
The Norwegian Nobel Committee selects the Nobel Peace Prize winners. Candidates may only be nominated by Qualified Nominators, which includes members of national assemblies, heads of state, former winners of the Peace Prize, university professors, directors of peace institutes, members of the Nobel Committee and a few other groups. (The Nobel Committee maintains strict secrecy over the names of the nominees for 50 years, so the names of the nominees are not made public.)
The Nobel Prizes come with sizeable cash awards totaling around $1 million. While that sum of money is not quite so interesting to the world’s wealthiest man, the Nobel Prizes are also widely regarded as one of the most prestigious awards available in the respective fields it is offered.
Now that we know more about the Nobel Peace Prize, who nominated Elon Musk for the award?
Who Nominated Elon Musk for the Nobel Peace Prize and Why?
European Parliament member Branko Grims posted on X on January 29, 2025, confirming he submitted nominated Elon Musk for the Nobel Peace Prize in honor of Musk’s “consistent support” for the “fundamental human right of freedom of speech and thus for peace:”
As a member of European Parliament, Grims is a “Qualified Nominator” who is able to formally nominate someone for a Nobel. (Another member of European Parliament, Marius Nilsen, nominated Musk for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024, based on Musk’s commitment, though Musk did not win.)
Why Elon Musk Should Win the Award
The Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to go to the person who did his “best to advance the fellowship among nations” and who generally worked to establish peace in the previous year. While Elon Musk does not ask for any prizes, awards or recognition, few people in the world did more to further peace than he has. Let’s take a look at some of Musk’s efforts.
Starlink
Readers are probably well familiar with Musk’s Starlink. Starlink provides high speed internet access around the world through thousands of satellites in low earth orbit. Starlink offers residential, commercial and even roaming internet service in countries all over the world.
When Russia invaded the Ukraine in 2022, Starlink initially provided free internet to the Ukrainians at an estimated cost of $20 million per month. Additionally, Starlink sent thousands of Starlink satellite internet kits to the Ukraine in an effort to promote communication among the Ukrainian people and to prevent the people from being cut off from the outside world and each other.
Yet, when the Ukrainian military wanted Starlink to provide internet access in Crimea in 2022 to facilitate a sneak drone attack on Russian naval vessels, Musk refused the request. Musk observed on his X social media account:
In the comments to this post, Musk observed:
That is the mentality of a humanitarian.
Musk and Starlink regularly follow this pattern of providing free services to disaster stricken areas and those in need.
After the devastating hurricanes Helene and Milton pounded the eastern United States, Starlink provided free internet services to disaster-stricken areas. The services were provided free through the end of the calendar year 2024.
Starlink provided a similar service to people impacted by the California wildfires and sent cybertrucks and Starlink terminals to assist with CA wildfire response.
Defending Free Speech
Elon Musk does more to help humanity than providing free internet services to those in disaster or war zones. In fact, he arguably does more to protect and defend Free Speech than virtually anyone alive.
Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion and made it a private company. At the time Musk purchased Twitter, the United States Government was running the most draconian coercive systematic program to suppress Free Speech ever devised in this Nation’s history. And the suppression of speech on social media was the express target of the Federal Government’s suppression operations.
I wrote about the Biden Regime’s speech suppression program in an article on this substack in May 2023.
Tracy Beanz, an investigative journalist and Editor-in-Chief at Uncover DC wrote extensively about the Missouri v. Biden case. This case blew the lid off of the Biden Regime’s censorship programs. One of her articles is linked above. Here is a link to another of her articles.
When Elon Musk bought Twitter, he also blew the lid off of the Biden Regime’s un-American censorship program by sharing evidence of collusion between tech companies, the federal government, liberal politicians and liberal tech groups to silence conservatives and control speech. Musk shared this explosive information with journalists to expose the Biden Regime's censorship campaign.
The government censorship program revealed by the Missouri v. Biden case and the Twitter Files included deplatforming or banning, suppressing the reach and access of, or otherwise suppressing the accounts of people whose views the government and the left did not approve of and even political positions or medical information the government and the left did not approve of. (A good report on the Biden Regime’s un-American censorship program was published by the U.S. House Committee on Weaponization of the Federal Government, for those interested in more reading. For a real deep dive into the Biden Regime’s unconstitutional, fascist assault on Free Speech, read the ruling granting the Preliminary Injunction. It is shocking reading.)
Musk’s efforts to expose the Government’s censorship coercion campaigns against social media helped bring about the demise of the programs. As Musk observed when he purchased Twitter:
Shortly after purchasing Twitter, Musk made good on his promises to restore Free Speech on the platform by restoring banned accounts and ending other anti-Free Speech practices at the platform. As Forbes Magazine reported in November 2022:
When Elon Musk took over Twitter, some advertisers threatened to pull ads if some accounts, including that of President Trump, were reinstated. Beyond that, accoridng to X (formerly known as Twitter), some advertisers and advertiser groups conspired to boycott X in an apparent effort to harm the company. In addition, X sued a group of advertisers and advertising organizations alleging antitrust law violations based on a conspiracy to boycott advertising on X for illegitimate reasons. (You may read the complaint here.) The lawsuit outlines a massive, coordinated boycott of advertising on X costing the social media company tens of millions of dollars in advertising revenue.
You will notice these advertisers and advertising organizations did not boycott any social media platforms when the platforms worked with the federal government to suppress Free Speech. Musk buys Twitter and stops the censorship and then these leftist corporatists are offended? Unbelievable.
Musk Faces the Wrath of the Left for Promoting Free Speech
The advertising boycotts at X are not the only attacks Elon Musk endured for promoting and defending Free Speech. Since the overwhelming majority of the online censorship targeted conservatives, conservative speech and conservative view points, Musk’s promotion of Free Speech angered the left in general.
The restoration of Free Speech on X probably helped President Trump win the 2024 election. One of the motivations behind the Biden Regime’s internet and social media censorship campaigns was to impede Trump’s reelection efforts by derailing conservative online speech. By restoring Free Speech at X and by exposing the Biden Regime’s fascist censorship campaign through release of the “Twitter Files,” Musk undoubtedly did boost Trump’s reelection efforts. (Musk also spent a massive amount of his own money through his super PAC, known as America PAC, helping Donald J. Trump win the 2024 election.)
Defending Free Speech, and helping President Trump, turned the left into rabid Musk haters. Numerous lefties called for Musk to be investigated, arrested or prosecuted, including Robert Reich (former Secretary of Labor under President Clinton), a former Twitter executive, Keith Olbermann, and U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, to name a few.
The Democrats’ despise Musk so deeply, in an interview with Tucker Carlson in October 2024, Musk observed he might be thrown in jail if Donald Trump did not win the Presidential election:
The point is this: Elon Musk’s dedication to Free Speech costs him significantly. The financial costs to Musk for defending Free Speech are massive, but the cost is not just financial. His dedication to Free Speech also risks his power, influence and, potentially, even his liberty.
Former Vice President Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his efforts to spread (mis) information about climate change. Former President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for his efforts to spread international diplomacy. But, the efforts of former VP Al Gore and former President Obama did not risk any of their personal finances, their prestige, their access to government, their power or influence. Quite the contrary, everything they did was in lock step with the global leftist establishment. In fact, they ingratiated themselves with the globalists with their efforts (which is probably why they won the Nobel Peace Prize in the first place).
That is not the case with Elon Musk. His efforts to restore, promote and defend Free Speech anger the globalist elites at his own financial and personal cost.
Conclusion
Elon Musk’s work to promote Free Speech is done at great personal sacrifice. Advertisers boycott his social media platform to try to kill the company. Powerful politicians and leftists call for his companies to be investigated and for him to be arrested and prosecuted. Leftist celebrities sell their Tesla electric vehicles in protest of Musk. Democrats plan protests outside of Tesla dealerships. Radical leftists threaten Musk's life. Crazed leftist Congressmen threaten to use “actual weapons" in the fight against Musk.
Despite all of this, Musk just keeps moving forward. Whether he is offering free internet services to disaster stricken areas, using his Space X to bring home stranded astronauts or restoring Free Speech on social media, he ignores the noise and keeps plugging away. The result is a much more robust ability to communicate and exchange information, opinions and view points throughout the world. Isn’t that what the Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to be all about?
