This is Not Your Grandpa's Democrat Party

Today's Democrat Party weaponizes law enforcement against political opponents, pushes radical transgender ideologies, suppresses Free Speech and employs violent rhetoric.

The Democrat Party of my youth was pro-labor, pro-God, pro-family and pro-America. The Democrat Party of today bears little resemblance to that party. Too often, today’s Democrat Party uses dangerous, violent rhetoric to attack others, weaponizes the power of government against political opposition and pushes radical, extremist leftist ideologies. A closer look at today’s Democrat party is in order:

Weaponizing the Law Against Political Opposition

The modern Democrat Party uses State and Federal law enforcement to overtly and blatantly attack its political opponents. These attacks are not limited to President Trump or the Trump Organization, though he is a frequent target. A few of the more prominent examples of the Democrats’ abuse of the law are listed below.

New York

New York Attorney General Letitia James ran for attorney general in 2018 on the platform of investigating and charging President Trump. As The New York Times documented, she claimed Trump was an “illegitimate president,” claimed Trump should have been charged with obstruction of justice and implied he laundered money from foreign governments through his real estate holdings:

NY AG James made good on her campaign promises by using litigation and a willing NYC judge to obtain a ridiculous civil fine judgment against Trump for over $400 million based on dubious claims. I wrote about the case previously here. The crazy decision barred Trump from applying for loans in New York for three years, prohibited Donald Trump, Jr., and Eric Trump from serving as officers in New York companies for two years and more, but the NY Court of Appeals stayed much of the judgment.

NY AG James also targeted the National Rifle Association during her campaign, calling the NRA a terrorist organization and vowed to use NY law to try to dissolve the NRA, seize its assets and put it out of business completely:

The NY AG efforts to shut down the NRA, seize its assets and dissolve it failed after four years of litigation.

In addition, the Manhattan DA targeted President Trump with what I characterized as illegitimate indictment which resulted in convictions for which Trump was recently sentenced to no jail time and will certainly appeal. (I wrote about the potential range of penalties several months ago.)

These people run for office promising to target their political opponents and put them out of business and get elected by Democrat voters.

Virginia

These attacks are not limited to New York. In Virginia, Democrats passed bills to strip tax exemptions for United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Confederate Memorial Literary Society (which maintains the America Civil War Museum, formerly known as the Museum of the Confederacy). The bills passed with the virtual unanimous support of Virginia Democrats. Only Virginia Governor Youngkin’s veto stopped the bills from becoming law.

Nevada, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin

Each of these states brought legal actions or indictments against “alternate electors” who were part of the Trump campaign’s effort to challenge the 2020 election results. The Fulton County, Georgia DA went further than most with a sprawling indictment of President Trump and over a dozen other Republicans which I wrote about previously here. But, Democrats in Nevada, Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin brought criminal charges against 2020 Republican alternate electors. Prosecuting political opposition is now employed by Democrats throughout the Country.

Federal Government

No mention of Democrat lawfare would be complete without covering the U.S. Department of Justice’s targeting of President Trump. First, was the Florida documents case, which I wrote about here, and the ridiculous Federal January 6 case against Trump which I wrote about here. The fact these bogus prosecutions ultimately went nowhere, does nothing to absolve the Democrats of abusing the government’s power in the first place.

Like I said, this is not your Grandpa’s Democrat Party.

The Democrats Violent, Dangerous Rhetoric

Democrats routinely use violent, extremist rhetoric against Republicans and others they oppose. From calling President Trump a “nazi” or “dictator” to likening him to Adolf Hitler to labeling him and Republicans and the MAGA movement as “dangers” or “threats to democracy,” the Democrats go to great lengths in their efforts to smear their political opponents. Predictably, President Trump is the most frequent victim of the Democrats’ violent fantasies and hyperbole. Here are a handful of illustrations.

On several occasions, then Democrat Presidential nominee Joe Biden claimed he would like to beat the hell out of or smack Trump in the mouth.

Democrat actor Robert De Niro said he would like punch Trump in the face.

Democrat comedianne Kathy Griffin famously released a picture of her holding up a decapitated head of President Trump.

In 2017, Rapper Snoop Dog filmed a music video of him pointing a gun at the head of a Trump look-alike.

Meanwhile in New York City in 2017, Shakespeare in the Park featured a mock assassination of Trump during Julius Ceasar productions.

Even after Trump was shot in an assassination attempt and another would-be assassin was thwarted, the Democrats persisted with the dangerous rhetoric.

This violent rhetoric sometimes appears to serve as “dog whistles” inspiring violent leftists, such as the deranged Bernie Sanders supporter who shot several Republican Congressmen at the Congressional soft ball game in Virginia in 2017 or the deranged leftist who attacked Republican Congressional candidate Rudy Peters in 2018 while shouting profanities about President Trump.

The Democrats spew their violent hyperbole at other targets, not just Republican politicians.

In 2020, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the Democrat leader of the Senate, stood on the steps of the United States Supreme Court and threatened Supreme Court justices claiming they would “pay the price” and “won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” (Talk about threats to Democracy? How about threatening the highest Court in the Land?)

Liberal Democrat singer Madonna said in January 2017 that she thought about blowing up the White House after Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential Election.

In 2018, liberal Hollywood actor Peter Fonda posted on social media that then 10 year old Barron Trump should be ripped “from his mother’s arms” and put in a cage with pedophiles. (Fonda later apologized.)

In 2019, leftist actor and Trump hater Tom Arnold posted on social media that he was “looking forward” to the day he could stand over Donald Trump, Jr.'s dead body.

Another deranged leftist is charged with attempting to assassinate U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh after being caught outside Justice Kavanaugh’s home in 2022 with a pistol, zip ties, a crow bar and tactical gear.

At least two separate deranged leftist loons were prosecuted for threatening to kill U.S. Federal Judge Aileen Cannon, the judge who oversaw the Biden Regime’s illegitimate prosecution of President Trump in Florida:

According to the linked reports, one of these loons threatened the judge because she thought the judge was “helping” Trump, while the other made some threats after the judge dismissed the prosecution. (Judge Cannon faced harsh and unwarranted criticism from Democrats over her handling of the case.)

I could go on and on delineating dangerous, violent rhetoric from Democrats as well as episodes of actual leftist violence potentially inspired by that rhetoric, but hopefully, the point is made: this is NOT your Grandpa’s Democrat Party.

Taking Down American Statues and Monuments

The Democrats worked throughout the South to remove Confederate monuments in recent years. Most people read or saw numerous reports about those efforts. What gets less press is the efforts by Democrats to remove the monuments and statues of other Americans.

For instance in 2022, Democrats removed the famous statue of former President of the United States and former Governor of New York, Theodore Roosevelt, from in front of the New York Museum of Natural History. The statue stood before the Museum of Natural History from 1940 until the City of New York took it down because the statue supports colonization and racism, according to one NYC Parks official.

Democrats in Washington demanded the Abraham Lincoln Emancipation Memorial be taken down, while leftists in Portland, Oregon tore down statues of Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt, and college leftists in Wisconsin called for the removal of Abraham Lincoln’s statue. In New York City, in 2023, substantial numbers of Democrats reportedly wanted to cancel former President and Founding Father George Washington. Also in New York City, in 2023, the City Council advanced a bid to do away with monuments to George Washington and Christopher Columbus.

The Democrats started with the monuments and memorials of Confederates, but they had no intention of stopping there.

Like I said, this is not your Grandpa’s Democrat Party.

Support of Radical Transgender Ideology

On January 14, 2025, the United States House of Representatives passed a bill to ban biological males from girls sports. The bill is known as The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. It passed with 218 votes in favor and 206 votes against. Only 2 Democrats in the US House voted in favor of protecting girls in school sports, despite the fact public opinion surveys show the vast majority of Americans (nearly 70%) think athletes should only compete on sports teams that correspond to their gender. That is a wonderful illustration of how radical the Democrats in Washington are.

In addition, Democrats in Washington push experimental transgender medical interventions in the U.S. military and defend gender change therapy for children, while Democrats in the states, such as Michigan, pass laws to let people select “X” as their gender on their driver’s licenses or change their gender on government documents. The modern Democrat Party is quite radical on transgender issues.

This is not your Grandpa’s Democrat Party.

Declining Support for Free Speech

The Biden Regime and rogue elements in the Federal Government worked with social media companies, or strong-armed social media companies, to suppress the Free Speech of Americans. These issues are being litigated in a case called Missouri v. Biden, which I wrote about here. The Federal Government engaged in a massive censorship program suppressing the speech of Americans and even outright de-platforming American citizens from social media accounts to stop the flow of information the government, media, big pharma and others opposed.

The government’s censorship and suppression included the suppression of factually TRUE information like information surrounding the origins of COVID or the truth about the ineffectiveness of wearing masks to stop the spread of COVID.

The censorship campaigns also targeted all manner of conservative speech from securing the border, to pro-Second Amendment messages.

Despite these blatantly suppressive, draconian and anti-American acts by our own government, public opinion polling shows large percentages of Democrats support restrictions on Free Speech:

These shifts in opinion among Democrats come at a time when Democrats on college campuses take radical action to shut down Free Speech, including students at Stanford shouting down a Federal Appeals Court Judge and students at Northwestern disrupted a presentation by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and at the same time, as demonstrated above, that Democrats target Republicans with violent speech.

Would your Grandpa’s Democrat Party want to dismantle the First Amendment? Not a chance. This is not your Grandpa’s Democrat Party.

This is Just a Sample of the Modern Democrat Party’s Extremism, There is More

There are plenty of additional illustrations of the modern Democrat Party’s extremism. For example, on the very day I wrote this article, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to prioritize the deportation of illegal aliens who are convicted of sexual assaults, but 145 Democrats in the House voted against it. (That is an improvement actually, because last year 158 Democrats voted against the bill.) Meanwhile, in 2017, a Democrat state legislator in Missouri said she hopes Trump is assassinated. More recently, in 2024, after Donald J. Trump was wounded by an assassin’s bullet, a Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate in Arkansas said the world would be a better place if the assassin had not missed.

Hopefully, you get the point. There is much amiss in the modern Democrat Party. This is not the Democrat Party of your Grandparent’s era. There are still good folks in the Democrat Party, make no mistake. I know quite a few personally. But, they are not in charge, for the most part and are far too quite compared to the radical elements. Hopefully, the Democrat Party’s radicalism will alienate enough people to allow the sane folks to retake the reins of power. That would make the world a better place.
